Vdara: Fresh Meets Familiar

The Vdara Hotel Review is part of the Quest Around The Globe Trip Report which covers the following places:

Here is the Picture Preview, the Excel Spreadsheet of all the points redemptions, and my CNN International Business Traveller segment which was filmed in Vegas.

Getting There: Read the Uber LAS post.

Here’s a little tidbit that you didn’t know about TPOL: I am a collector of cologne. Well, I used to until I went nomadic and could not justify checking in a bag to bring a gallon of Sex Panther everywhere I went. 60% of the time…

Even though I’m not obsessed with fragrances as I once was, opting to only shower on airplanes, I still stop by the Duty Free to see what’s new. Nothing has impressed me to the point that I have to scan the bar code, wait till I get home, and buy it at a discount from Amazon. I voiced my frustration with the lack of innovation in the cologne world to the salesperson who smartly commented, “How many new, distinct smells can they really create?”

Enter Las Vegas hotel development. Everything has been done. Every combination has been tried: a gigantic wave pool, an illustrious fountain, a mile of shops, a city within a city, a New York City, and everyone’s favorite hangover, Caesar’s Palace. The outlandish theme park hotels have grown stale. So what can be done to make Vegas great again? Another Trump tower?

The trend now is to unVegas the Vegas experience. Hotels like the Delano, SLS, the new W, and the Vdara aim to provide a different Vegas vacation, one that Mr. Papagiorgio, almost twenty years later, would appreciate.

Vdara has created something new that will bring back Vegas regulars who are too sophisticated for the grimy pool party but still want to engage in savory debauchery. It does this by offering great rooms with impeccable views, eliminating the sound of slot machines (Vdara is a gaming free resort), while being steps away from the fun. Its sister hotel, Aria, and its unrelated cousin, Cosmopolitan, are right next door. Guests can go crazy at Marquee Nightclub one night then retreat to the safety of their suite the next. Guests can leverage their M-Life status to gain access at Aria’s Liquid Dayclub or take the elevator down in their own hotel to a more placid pool experience. The combination of familiar and fresh make Vdara a reason to give Vegas another go.

  1. You are ridiculous! You only shower on airplanes??? How many times do you actually fly on a plane that has a shower? You must smell awful. Also, what’s with checking your bag 60% of the time just to wear cologne? Can’t you just bring a couple of sample sizes if you need it that bad? Maybe related to the lack of showering.

Your review was completely lacking. Can’t even see what the crapper looks like! That’s where I spend 90% of my hotel time in Vegas. Also, I think you missed a letter when spelling Vdara. I mean a “d” after a “V”? C’mon. Use spell check!

  2. i’m going to start charging you miles…or maybe day passes for lounges…or perhaps i’ll just keep loving your posts and annoying the hell out of you :

“…till I get home, and by it at a discount from …”

    buy, buy!
