I’ve reviewed the Westin Las Vegas before as part of my Vegas Knockout Series. Since then it has been remodeled. The highlights of the hotel include the 24 hour pool and hot tub, the breakfast buffet, and on site Starbucks. Although it isn’t located directly on the Strip, it is still within walking distance of the Vegas filth.

TPOL loves doughnuts and Fruit Loops which makes this hotel a winner. What really makes this place great is the 24 hour pool. My only complaint is that the hotel still charges a resort fee despite its off Strip location. That and a steep price per night make the Hyatt Place Las Vegas a more appealing option for a strip-less option.

I’m a real fan of your posts, but I guess this one was done under the premise that a picture is worth a thousand words.

Pretty much true of most Vegas area casino hotels and some non-casino ones. Palms, Red Rock, Green Valley, Platinum, Golden Nugget all charge resort fees (and none are on the Strip).
I don’t usually value elite benefits and points at more than 10-15% of the room rate (which goes down some as the room rate spikes), and very often other Strip properties (or off Strip ones) kill chain places like the LV Westin on room rates. Hmm, let’s see, Palms Place for $100 including resort fee and a much nicer room, or LV Westin for $125 including resort fee? Heck, I can take the money I saved and buy SPG points at a discount during their next promo, right?
(I also tend to not value free food in the lounge in Vegas, the big “hey, I’m a big shot with a shiny card” benefit because low-roller buffets are just so damn cheap and available in Vegas. All the crappy food you want for $10-15? Sure!) Even comes with the same cheap sparkling wine they serve on AA domestic, all you can drink!)

Yeah, Hyatt Place LV might be better. OTOH, I’ve done two day stays at MGM Signature for a net of $220ish all-in, plus the Royal Caribbean Royal Offer (that nobody ever checks your RCCL status on) for $150 resort credit. OH HAI HYATT POINTS AND STAY CREDIT. MGM Signature vs. Hyatt Place? GTFO, Hyatt Place.
IMO Vegas is a crappy place for getting high value out of chains and status compared to a lot of other places.
My favorite “I’m a cheap bastard” place for chain stays is the Hampton Inn over by the airport. I’ve used it for daytime naps, showers and luggage storage during crazy Vegas weekends. 20k HHonors, often has a cash rate at $70 or so. It’s considerably farther away from the Strip than the Westin, though. Also there’s a Four Points on Flamingo that is a Level 2 (3k points on a weekend!) that is probably a winner if you want someplace not TOO far from the Strip, but are cash-poor/points-rich over an expensive Vegas weekend.

The 24 hour pool sounds amazing. Are there any other Vegas hotels that offer that? Sadly, the only hotel anywhere that I’ve come across with a 24 hour poll is a Country Inn & Suites. How bad were the rates at the hotel? The casino area reminds me of Ellis Island a bit, but what was wrong with the sports book? Lastly, not to be rude, but isn’t it a bit of a conflict of interest for a sports agent to bet on sports?
Pool question: I guess if you consider going to Club XS a 24/hour pool then yes. Otherwise, not to my knowledge.
