Iberia MAD-BCN is part of the Gold Medal Trip Report.
This was a strange flight. I was in ‘business’ but there were 3 seats in the business class row. I’m not sure if this was COVID-inspired but the middle seat was unavailable for passengers.
That came in handy for my tapas and Coke Zero. Inspired by my American neighbor, I ordered a bottle of the Cava. It was warm and tasted like the ‘champagne’ we had in my house growing up. No bueno.
Overall
For 10k points (see Bus-Ted: Gold Medal Trip Report Points & Cash Summary), flying business is worth it.
The middle seat is always unavailable, that’s what makes it “business” class.
Was this a thought you just decided to put into a waste of an article (if it can be called that)?
Intra-Europe business class on most European airlines is just a regular economy row with a blocked middle seat. That’s standard. As far as I know, only LOT, TAROM, Turkish, and Aeroflot have US-style regional business class cabins.
Definitely used to Turkish. But my question remains: was it always blocked or is it post COVID
Regularly blocked pre-COVID. Sometimes unblocked during disruption if needed to accommodate displaced pax.
Thank you for the information.

always blocked. Jeez TPOL, I never had you pegged as a n00b
Guess so. I’m used to easyjet and coach.
Haha I honestly thought your were being facetious! I’ve never flown euroclass before 🙁
Last summer we flew IST-FRA-FLR using UA miles (Total Per Passenger: 16500 miles + 62.20 USD) in couch. Crappy service and hard product on both legs: Lufthansa LH 1301 and Air Dolomiti EN 8860. Not only they lost our luggage for 3 days, when we finally received the bags two of them were damaged beyond repair! After much red tape, we received a replacement bag through a German outfit (Dolfi 1920 GmbH) – the 2nd bag was never replaced.
If only you knew an angry attorney
