Residency Lessons Madrid is part of The Adios Puerto Rico, Hola España Trip Report. Read TPOL in Madrid: Why A Second Residency?
What did I learn from my first residency experience?
- A 2 bedroom is unnecessary. One bedroom, 1.5 bathroom is preferrable (see Madrid Long-Term Rental: Show Up, Start Living at The Blueground).
- Do not go when it is cold (see Sunday Fun/Run Day: Spring in Madrid). It was chilly in February which made getting out challenging.
- Don’t take all food advice (see Don’t Take All Advice: Meh Restaurants in Madrid).
- You Don’t Have to Order a Bottle of Wine
- No beer for breakfast. I still need to be productive (see Espresso? Beer? Both?: My Madrid Morning Routine).
- Pack smartly (see Moving Abroad (Temporarily): An Expert’s Guide for What to Pack).
- Beware of DCC (see Tap to Pay Abroad).
Good morning. I don’t know if you recognize my name and email I use when making comments / asking you questions, or defending you against dip- sh*ts that complain about your posts, but I’m the ASU fan (that WAS targeting!) who was in Doha just after you, and I think I was in Baku just before you.
Anyway, I read a few of your posts this morning, and think I saw you mention you just hit 100 countries (congrats), but now I can’t find it, so I am putting this comment here.
I am scheduled to arrive in Tunis this Thursday night, and that will be my 100th.
Have you been, and, if so, any thoughts on what to do / eat?
I did mess up as this year I get there right before Ramadan. While it will make being there less convenient, I think it will be interesting to experience the Iftar with the locals.
Please let me know if you have any thoughts…
I didn’t find the food to be very good. No spice! Best thing I did was go to Hammamet and then desert safari. Of course, those posts aren’t up. It was on the same trip as Iraq. I had my own driver take me all over including where they filmed Star Wars. Since I’m not a fan of that series, I thought that was too long a drive. In Tunis, I went to the Medina but that was it.
P.S. don’t email me directly as that is a bogus email account!
I have all the unedited posts. Email me at Alexander@thepointsoflife.com and I can share what I have.
