Disclaimer: I reviewed The Wing when I was moving out of the nightmare that was Mongolia. Although I visited both lounges this past trip, this review will have mostly pictures of The Pier.
Which is better, The Pier or the Wing? TPOL breaks it down by analyzing critical metrics.
The Age
The Pier is newer than the The Wing.
Advantage: The Pier
The Name
Gary’s blog isn’t called View From The Pier for a reason.
Advantage: The Wing
The View
Ironically, The View From The Pier is more impressive.
The Pier has large windows right next to the tarmac which provides an excellent opportunity for plane spotting. You can see the planes from The Wing but they aren’t up close and personal.
Advantage: The Pier
The Food
Both have a dining room and snacks. The Pier calls its snack room The Pantry which is loaded with enough sweets to spoil your dinner. The quality of food and the service in both dining rooms is stellar. I had breakfast in the Pier and lunch at The Wing.

The Setup
I spent half a day in The Pier and liked the amount of space and abundance of outlets for those looking to get work done. I also took a shower which I desperately needed after the JFK-YVR-HKG flight.
My problem with The Pier was the loud, nonstop music. Initially, I enjoyed the Christmas music but after awhile I wanted peace and quiet. At the same time, I felt claustrophobic because of the low ceilings. The Pier is located one level below the terminal while The Wing is located above it.
Advantage: The Wing
The Drinks
The Wing has a champagne bar. The Pier has a bar that serves champagne. The fact that The Wing does not cross-contaminate champagne with drinks of lesser stature makes it the clear winner in this category. Simultaneously, there is a champagne butler on hand to make sure your glass never runs empty.
Advantage: The Wing
Overall
I love the open space and champagne bar which I have yet to see in any other lounge. Although The Pier is newer, The Wing continues to get better with age.
Nice to have a side-by-side contrast. Thanks.
Thanks for reading.
This was great to read. Thank you
Thank u.
i’m slowly ketch-ing up post christmas. here’s the mustard :
“large windows right next to the tarmac which provide~~s~~ an excellent opportunity for plane spotting.”
subtract the ~~s~~.
also, money article on frequent miler. with the ebay thing. hell yeah man. hell yeah. fight the man. fight the woman. fight the gender-neutral!
I was beginning to think i was mistake free all the time. I have an audio app on my phone which reads my posts to me so mobile blogging is no longer an excuse for errors. Changing it on the go is a pain.
Thanks re eBay.
Worth visiting both if you have the time. Personally I find the Pier more enjoyable to spend time in but the Wing is more of a spectacle.
