I’m in Tasmania. How Do I Get to My Hotel?

I’m in Tasmania. How Do I Get to My Hotel? is part of the TPOL Down Under Trip Report.

If you end up in Hobart Airport, you may be wondering how to get to your hotel and if you’ll need a rental while you’re on the island. Unlike Darwin, rentals in Hobart are expensive. I didn’t know if I would need a car for the duration of my stay which left me with three choices to get to my hotel: SkyBus, taxi, or Uber.

SkyBus was $39 for one way for two people. Since we were the last flight into Hobart, the driver said he’d cut it down to $33. The alternative was a taxi for $50AUD or the obvious choice, Uber, for $30AUD.

I ended up renting a car (see Renting a Car in Tasmania: The Devil Is on the Island) from the city center. If you only need the car for one day, renting from the city may be cheaper so you don’t have to pay the hotel $20AUD per night for the first night of parking. However, if you return the car to the airport with a city rental, there’s a $30AUD charge. That’s a savings of $10AUD. If you’re in Hobart for a few days then renting from the airport makes more sense. Too many iterations to think about upon first landing. What do you expect when the devil is on the island?
