Protea Seapoint: That’s An Ocean View?

The Protea Cape Town Sea Point Hotel Review is part of the South America & Africa Points Heist Trip Report.

I checked into the Protea Sea Point which is located in the affluent Sea Point neighborhood minutes away from the Protea Waterfront, aka Prison/Business School. The hotel costs 5,000 more points, but the rooms are nicer and the location gives travelers an opportunity to experience more than the Waterfront (see Posticino:Where to Eat Italian Food Cape Town).

The View
I’ve been hustled a time or two in my travels (see my Bargaining and Travel Nightmare posts). Getting duped in a negotiation for tourist trinkets is one thing, but being told that my room has a partial ocean view when it did not was an unpleasant surprise.

a view of a city from a balcony
Where is the ocean?
a city with buildings and trees
Not to my right
a view of a beach and buildings from a balcony
Ah, there it is
a tall building next to a beach
Fair to say that this is a partial ocean view.

The Bed
One benefit of the hotel is the king size bed instead of the Protea Waterfront double. a bed with white sheets and a lamp in a room with a balcony a bed with a lamp next to a chair

The Shower
The bathroom was superior to the Protea Waterfront because of the rain showerhead. a shower with a green sign a group of brown bottles on a counter

The Room
It wasn’t a suite, but I’ll trade a bigger bed for a smaller room.a room with a bed and a desk and a tv a room with a bed and a desk and a tv a tv on the wall

Overall
I liked the Protea Sea Point more than the Protea Prison because of the neighborhood. Just don’t fall for the description that you will see the ocean. You won’t unless you go out on your balcony and make a sharp left.
