Am I crazy? Wasn’t I just here? The Delta Sky Club at Detroit Metro Airport is exactly like the one in Minneapolis. This one boasts a grand entrance with a front desk that makes you think you are checking into the Waldorf. Instead, after taking the escalator up one level, you find yourself back in the mediocrity that is the Delta Sky Lounge. This includes a self-service bar, self-service finger foods, and self-service entertainment.
Why doesn’t Delta try harder to give those coming through the sparkling McNamara Terminal a more worldly experience? The reason is because Delta is more concerned with profits than putting on a show. It really is sad to see the reaction from international travelers when they arrive at the Delta lounge. “This is it?” Nobody is expecting Lufthansa’s First Class Lounge or Singapore’s Private Room but at least put forth some effort.
Bored, I chose to leave the lounge and wait in the stunning terminal for my Virgin Atlantic flight to depart.
And now for the pictures:

What I really liked about the Delta Sky Clubs at DTW is that you can get your drinks yourself. You don’t need to wait for the barkeeper each and every time. So when it comes to this I like the Detroit clubs more than most Delta lounges.
In theory, self-service would be fine but the issue is there’s only one tight bar for the whole lounge. The looks I got for taking up the space while making those Bloody Mary’s! I offered strangers a happy hour discount. They refused.
That’s right.
When we were there (the two lounges at both ends of the terminal) we sat in that circular area where the bar is located. So there was no need to carry stuff through whole lounge. Plus, as it seemed, there was not much traffic towards the bar area.
Maybe because it is almost a bit hidden 😉
It’s by no means perfect there, but still I liked it better than other Sky Clubs.
However, the soda fountains were weird, the metal holder was slightly misplaced. If glass was placed as suggested then the soda poured beside the glass.
Sorry for my complicated description. One needs to know how it looks in real life to possibly understand what I’m talking about. And that English is not my first language doesn’t help …
Oh I’m with you. Had the same problem.
