We love to make fun of Delta and with good reason. My last great redemption was 95k SkyTugrik from JNB-SFO via LHR on Virgin. While the long-haul deals are few and far between, I did find an amazing deal to help me with my commute from my new home in Puerto Rico to NYC. For only 8,000 points, I am flying nonstop from JFK-SJU on Delta. I have seen JetBlue for as low as 6,700 but would rather burn the SkyKyat first and save those JetBlue points for island trips like I did last year when I went to Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago. I should also mention that I already had 6k in my Delta account which made the decision even easier.

PR and neighboring islands were *decimated* by the hurricanes last year, so maybe this is simply a reflection of customers booking away and lighter flight loads ?
That may be but I think it’s also the close connection between NY and PR. They’re still running dozens of flights there daily.
This could be paired nicely with IHG’s 50% off reward nights promo for hotels in the Caribbean if someone was traveling before June 30th and could throw the trip together in the next few days before the promo ends. Too bad I already have two other trips booked during this time or I’d consider going down to stay at the Intercontinental for a couple of nights!
