Thank You Trump! SYD-NAN-DFW Cancelled

Remember when the Straits of Hormuz were open? Of course, you do not, because it was not something the average person concerned himself with. Now, everyone is a geopolitical expert on Iran. And now, the average person is starting to feel the effects of our Buffoon in Chief’s war.

My comeuppance for moving to Puerto Rico in 2018 (see Despacito! TPOL Is Moving to Puerto Rico! Effective Inmediatamente) instead of running for Senator came by way of email yesterday:

Bula from Fiji Airways,

We are contacting you to advise of an important update to your upcoming booking with Fiji Airways.

Due to ongoing developments in the Middle East and the associated operational impacts, including fuel cost challenges, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend our Nadi- Dallas services effective September 7th.  As a result, the flight on which you are currently booked will no longer operate.

I was supposed to live in Sydney in December as part of my next Residency, then spend 2 weeks in the South Pacific on my way home, notably to visit American Samoa (I Blew It: Missing Blowholes in Samoa And Tuna in America), along with other islands for my Country Count.
Now, I am not sure what I will do. Anyone who has searched for availability on Fiji via Alaska knows and will appreciate how difficult it was for me to book this ticket (Bula! Fiji Airways Vancouver to Nadi Flight Review).
Is it November yet? #gethimout

  1. All other things aside, on the DFW route, for all of 2025, Fiji Airways only ran a 63.2% load factor. There were individual months with loads under the 40% mark (average for whole month). So, to be fair and all else aside, it was kinda crappy anyway.

  2. Keep the politics out of your post. Cancelled flights suck, regardless. Disruptions happen all over the world, daily, for issues beyond our control. Be glad you have the freedom to take these trips. First world problems.

  3. It’s not TDS…. It should be PDS Political Derangement Syndrome. I literally can’t read a post/comment/article anymore that doesn’t contain some type of political derangement. I’m so tired of all this BS, there is not civility left in humanity, especially in this country. I hate all politics at this juncture, can’t watch the news because it is full of spin… Some this way, some that way and it is tiring. Not worth the emotional capital you have to invest. So please, for the love of whatever you hold sacred, stop with the endless political tripe.

    • Did I cancel the flight based on the situation in the Middle East and higher oil prices? What event triggered those things? Who triggered that event? It’s not politics when there’s a causal relationship.

  4. The problem in IRAN began in 1979…and has been a growing threat ever since. Perhaps if it was appropriately handled by one of the previous administrations, this president would not have had to deal with it. My guess is that if a major city in Europe was destroyed by a nuke… there would be a lot of cancelled city pairs.

    • The problem in Iran began in 1953, when the USA deposed the democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, and replaced the government with a MONARCHY. Americans need to face that fact, else they will never understand the justifiable enmity Iran holds towards the US government. Also…Iran wasn’t building a nuke, so the idea that the current crisis was justified by some imminent threat? Yeah, Americans need to face that fact as well. The entire world is losing patience with y’all.

      • As an Iraqi American whose parents left Iraq in 1982 because of the war with Iran and as constitutional professor in Anti Terrorism Law, I am uniquely qualified to discuss this subject. But, as you can see from the comments, it’s a waste of time to try to lay out facts.

Fiji literally cited the war as the reason for cancelling the flight, yet somehow I’m the problem. Not everyone should voice his opinion.

  5. Oh Boo Hoo, please show us on the doll where the world hurt you. Grow up and quit your whining. What a selfish, pointless political rant. Keep your garbage to yourself.

    • Maybe you can show us on the doll where this blog post hurt you. Maybe YOU could grow up and quit whining, hypocrite. This blog post was about something that actually effects people; your comment was just pure bitching.

  6. You have no comprehension of what the war on Iran is about, its not about your comfort or your whining like a little sissy over a cancelled flight , what a douchebag

  7. Let me begin by saying that I really appreciate the service that sites like this provide. The knowledge I’ve gained has improved my quality of life.

That said, I do hope the author will consider the advice they’ve gotten from several commenters. I agree with the other posters about keeping blog posts on Boarding Area sites apolitical.

I don’t write this comment to criticize the author, but rather to just say that I come here for travel advice, not to be told what to think about geopolitics. Injecting political ideology detracts from the core mission of the valuable service these Boarding Area sites provide.

Thank you once again to The Points of Life. Very grateful.

  8. You want to bring politics into your third rate airline?
Perhaps you should concentrate on bringing your tech and cabin crews up too First World standards, and it is too bad you aren’t within range of Iran’s ballistic missiles, which without US intervention would have had nuclear warheads by now.

  9. Thanks for speaking out against the tyranny. It’s gone too far to just say “keep politics out of it”. The orange monster has made sure that his cancer metastasizes everywhere. People don’t like medicine, but we need chemo big time.
