The Park Hyatt Melbourne: Not the Same ‘Park’

What's your favorite brand? If you're not a points participant and have some disposable income, then I'm sure it is the Four Seasons. If not then I'm guessing its either the St. Regis, Conrad, or Park Hyatt.

Radisson Melbourne: The Business Class Room

As a Club Carlson Gold Member, I was upgraded to a Business Class Room at the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne. Business Class aboard Finnair and business at Radisson are slightly different with the former providing much more amenities.

Guns & Butter: Melbourne Travel Guide

G'day, Mate: Here's the Travel Guide for Melbourne, Australia using The Guns & Butter methodology: A trip is composed of two factors: Labor And Lazy...

Melbourne-Wellington: Paying Cash Saves $

Fixated with constructing the best points itinerary beheld by all of mankind, I forgot common sense in making my booking from Melbourne to Wellington. I elected to use Avios to fly business on Qantas. The fare should've been 40,000 points and a nominal amount in tax. Instead after hours arguing with terrible British Airways customer service, I ended up paying $260 which included improper fuel surcharges.

Novotel Wellington Review: Platinum Style

We Thought You Were Cool tells the story of how my platinum status expired after signing up on a Polish website for instant top-tier status. I didn't get a lot of use out of being a platinum except for my trip to Windy Wellington. The Novotel there was reasonably priced at around $139 NZD a night and offered a $30/day hotel credit that I used on bottles of Sauvignon Blanc.

Guns & Butter: Wellington Travel Guide

Windy Wellington! Do you know that Wellington is the capital of New Zealand? Seriously, it isn't Auckland. I've traveled near and far and have to say that Wellington is far. Just look at the Great Circle Mapper to see how far it is from the hometown of Flint.

Qantas Business Lounge & Flight Review: Wellington to Sydney

As I discussed, I don't think it's worth 40k Avios for a round trip to New Zealand from Australia. It is better to pay cash for coach and save your points. Still, it was interesting to see what flying Qantas business is like. As a company, Qantas has had a rough time competing with Virgin, the ever expanding number of competitors flying into Australia, and discount carriers.

Guns & Butter: Sydney Travel Guide

Sydney, Australia is a city that everyone wants to visit. Out of the three cities I went to in Australia & New Zealand which included Melbourne and Wellington, it was definitely my favorite.

Old Biz Metal: Malaysia Airlines Sydney to Kuala Lumpur

In the United States, more flights go through Atlanta than anywhere. It's been said that on the way to heaven, worthy souls still would have to connect through Atlanta. The same can be said of Kuala Lumpur. Too many of my passport pages have been used transiting on AirAsia flights through KL.

Review: Malaysia Business Class Lounge

While Kuala Lumpur's International Airport is first-class, it doesn't have the soul of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi or swag of Singapore's Changi. The same can be said of Kuala Lumpur as a city. Sure, it has the Petronas Towers which are the tallest twin towers in the world but there's little else in the capital that makes it a city worth seeing.
